An unhinged stranger punched an off-duty NYPD cop in the head in Queens early Thursday, police said.
The 35-year-old cop parked his car at Merrick Boulevard and 89th Avenue in Jamaica around 2:15 a.m., and stepped out when a passerby suddenly began mumbling, and then yelling, at him, cops said.
The man then punched the officer in the head, police said.
He also ripped the officer’s cell phone out of his hand and smashed it on the ground — apparently when the cop attempted to call 911, according to police.
The assailant — who wore a white T-shirt and olive green jacket — ran off, and the officer refused medical attention on scene, police said.
The suspect did not appear to know his victim was an officer, cops said.
