Here are three potential free agent targets for the Yankees:
Infielder DJ LeMahieu, New York Yankees
When the Yankees signed LeMahieu two years ago, it was hard to see exactly how he fit onto their roster. Now it’s difficult to envision the team without him. The two-year, $24 million contract turned out to be a bargain. This time around, LeMahieu figures to get something closer to four years at perhaps $80 million.
Pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, New York Yankees
The last time Tanaka was a free agent, he was among the most sought-after pitchers in the world. After seven seasons in The Bronx, the 32-year-old is no longer a top of the rotation starter, but has continued to be a reliable, durable arm in a rotation that is short in that department.
Pitcher Kevin Gausman, San Franciso Giants
In addition to Tanaka, the Yankees could look to add another veteran arm, and they previously have shown interest in the right-hander, who pitched well for the Giants in 2020. Corey Kluber, coming off two injury-marred seasons, could be another option.
