I love my family and would do anything for them. Put me in charge of the country and I’d probably fight the temptation to place them at the top of the list for COVID tests, too.
It appears that’s exactly what NY’s Governor Andrew Cuomo did. In breaking news from Albany’s Times-Union newspaper:
“Members of Cuomo’s family including his brother, his mother and at least one of his sisters were also tested by top health department officials — some several times, the sources said.”
They have reported that “high-level members” of New York’s DOH (Department of Health) were directed to “conduct prioritized coronavirus testing on the governor’s relatives as well as influential people with ties to the administration.”
While millions were waiting for a test, Cuomo’s family got pushed to the front of the line.
Kind of reminds me of those people at Disneyland who get special passes to skip the crowd and go straight to the entrance of the ride. Only, COVID is a matter of life and death, not a simple amusement park ride.
As you might recall, Cuomo’s brother Chris (who anchors CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time”) was diagnosed with the coronavirus in late March of 2020. This diagnosis came during a time when others in the country were struggling to find testing sites and/or opportunity for diagnosis.
I have to wonder how many people lost their battle without receiving tests at all?
Regardless, Cuomo’s family had access to multiple tests.
Meanwhile, we now know that Governor Cuomo hid stats related to the number of COVID-related deaths in NY after mandating sick patients return to their respective nursing homes in spite of being COVID-positive.
We also know that the staff of those nursing homes did their best to speak up and voice their concerns, but went unheard.
According to NY nursing home admin Michael Kraus:
“Many facilities vocalized it. They were petrified, but they were more petrified of the Department of Health … once [my concern] was shot down, I never spoke [about it] again.” (FOX News)
And Governor Cuomo is behind it all.
This is the man who won an Emmy? The one who was touted, cheered, and praised for how he led his state during the pandemic?
He led with his family at the front of the line.
He led with the elderly and frail at the end of the line.
He led with healthcare workers in the middle of the fray, deliberately placed at risk.
And he led with women (now eight) lined up, one by one, to be harassed and/or (allegedly) fondled by him along the way.
Not exactly how we lead where I come from.
But then again, I’m from a Red State.
