The U.S. House canceled Thursday’s session because law enforcement officials warned of a possible breach of the Capitol by a militia group claiming Trump would be restored to power on that date.
In a public statement, Capitol police had this to say:
The United States Capitol Police Department is aware of and prepared for any potential threats towards members of Congress or towards the Capitol complex. We have obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4. We have already made significant security upgrades to include establishing a physical structure and increasing manpower to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers.
Our Department is working with our local, state, and federal partners to stop any threats to the Capitol. We are taking the intelligence seriously. Due to the sensitive nature of this information, we cannot provide additional details at this time.
We have learned that Capitol police had advance warning before the January 6th breach but (due to internal problems) missed their window of opportunity to stop the incident. There are varying stories of what happened that day, but the long and short of it is, the Capitol police don’t want to see a repeat. Representatives don’t, either.
Do I believe another breach would have taken place? Probably not, but in this volatile climate it’s hard to tell. So, Nancy and her crew will be safely tucked away, far from the Capitol. And I’m sure AOC’s breathing a sigh of relief that she won’t have to worry about Ted Cruz murdering her. That’s always good.
The Capitol Police added that it is “aware of and prepared for any potential threats towards members of Congress or towards the Capitol complex.” This, of course, is why they provided additional security. (Enter the fencing and razor wire.)
Of course, National Guard troops are already protecting the Capitol. In fact, the Capitol police have asked that their presence be extended another 60 days. (In a side note, many of these guardsmen/women recently faced horrific bouts of food poisoning after being served inadequate food. I’m sure they’re looking forward to getting the heck out of Dodge when all of this is over.)
If there’s one thing we’ve seen a lot of in recent weeks. . .it’s drama. From accusations (both true and false) to videos recounting what did (or didn’t) happen on January 6th, these Capitol events have been filling news headlines for weeks. And, as long as The Left can keep the narrative going that conservatives are dangerous, we’ll keep seeing them.
So, look for plenty of troops, lots of fences, and more dramatic Twitter-tales from those who love to draw attention to themselves.
It’s coming, folks. It’s coming.
