January 1, 2021
I’m writing this note as we cross over the midnight hour into 2021. We’re shifting from
the year from hell 2020 to more of the same a brand new, fresh, hopeful year. I stayed up till midnight, hoping I would see Joe Biden come to his senses and resign some sign of hope that this New Year would be different. But so far things are looking about the same like a dark, dark winter.
Uncle Ollie is snoring in the bed next to me. He needs his rest after the rough evening we had! We attended a
New Year’s Eve party super-spreader event at the church banned religious institution. We were playing cards with another couple non-LGBTQ duo and Ollie mentioned the upcoming event in D.C. on D-day January 6. He mentioned that he would like to join the march treasonous gathering to support President Trump, Joe Biden’s former running mate. He also bragged on all of the brave Republican senators and representatives radical right-wing conspiracy theorists who will be objecting to the electoral vote obstructing justice and attempting to steal the perfectly legitimate election.
Well, it was all over after that. Apparently, our friends believe your uncle is misguided in still supporting
President Trump the man who ruined America. They think it’s time to move on. (Can you imagine?) I told them all about the fraud cases perfectly legitimate election stories I’d been following. But they told us to suck it up and stop whining. They accused us of being sore losers! Can you imagine your Uncle Ollie being called a sore loser?
Everything after that is kind of a blur. I do remember your Uncle Ollie
throwing his chair back gently rising from his seat. I might’ve said something about Sleepy Joe president-elect Biden and his crooked perfectly wonderful son being thieves and traitors stellar examples of all it means to be American. And then, heaven help me, I might have added something about how they all need to go to jail take their rightful place in the Oval Office as a result of their treasonous patriotic actions.
Thank goodness our pastor arrived just in time to bring calm to the situation. He reminded our friends that
Trump the racist, misogynist, xenophobe is still our president, at least for now. That seemed to shut them up. He also asked us to pray offer positive vibes for all involved. I was grateful for that reminder. Sometimes I get so worked up that I forget to ask God secular humanism for help.
I don’t know what 2021 will bring. I would like to think that when the clock rolled to 12:01 A.M. just now that the world
miraculously scientifically realigned itself. But I will say this: I’ll go on fighting for conservative bigoted, narrow-minded values, no matter how long it takes. I choose to do this, not for myself, but for you. . .and those precious sons and daughters gender-neutral children of yours. They are worth the fight.
I love you all and wish you a very Happy New Year!
