She’d never met him before. But in 2019 Anna Ruch (33) approached Governor Andrew Cuomo at a wedding reception to thank him for the kind words he’d spoken while offering her friends, the bride and groom, a toast.
What happened next was completely unexpected and shocking. According to Ruch, Cuomo put his hand on her lower (bare) back. She pulled his hand away, at which point he accused her of being “aggressive.” Then Governor Cuomo allegedly put his hands on her cheeks (er, the ones on her face) and asked if he could kiss her.
He spoke loudly enough to be overheard by a witness.
“I was so confused and shocked and embarrassed,” Ruch told the New York Times, as she described the incident. “I turned my head away and didn’t have words in that moment.”
She went on to add: “It’s the act of impunity that strikes me. I didn’t have a choice in that matter. I didn’t have a choice in his physical dominance over me at that moment. And that’s what infuriates me. And even with what I could do, removing his hand from my lower back, even doing that was not clear enough.”
Her friend has corroborated Ruch’s account of the events that took place at the reception.
This accusation is the third in less than a week against Governor Cuomo, whose bright light appears to be fading.
A spokesman for Cuomo released a statement on Sunday night. In it, Mr. Cuomo acknowledged that statements he’d made “have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation. To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry about that.”
It doesn’t look like his vague explanation is going to go very far and smoothing things over.
Republicans and Democrats alike are calling on Cuomo to resign. In the meantime, New York Attorney General was cleared to move ahead with an inquiry into sexual harassment allegations against the Governor.
Honestly? I’m shocked anyone is taking these accusations seriously. I’m so accustomed to everyone from the Left getting away with everything that it feels rather startling to watch them turn on their own.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad they’re taking it seriously. But watching Democrats eat their comrades for lunch clues me in to the fact that, since Trump left office, they’re getting bored with the new status quo. They need news stories and they need them now!
So, Cuomo is up to bat. And I have a strong suspicion he’s about to be tossed out of the game, once and for all.
Peanuts, anyone? Popcorn? I think this is a show you’re not going to want to miss.
